Are you ready for Change?
If you know you want life to be different but don’t know where to start then here’s a set of steps that can be used daily to open the way for change to sneak into your life gradually.
1. Settle yourself, breathe slowly and allow your body to calm as you find your centre.
2. Think of three things for which you can feel grateful. This changes your focus and attention away from an negative mindset that only sees irritations and annoyances into the positive. Being aware of simple things works just as well as anything else. My three this morning were: the warmth of a comfortable bed, the freedom to sit in the sun down at the harbour yesterday, and the memory of a hot chocolate before bed last night.
3. Think of one person to forgive. This is a profound step. I think of a person and my belief that they have treated me badly or that my life is worse because of them. I become aware of the tightness in my body and the resentment in my centre. Then I take responsibility for myself, let go of my need for revenge, send them a blessing instead and feel my whole body relax.
4. Imagine how you would like the day ahead to look. This doesn’t have to mean the list of things you want to get done. You can imagine what you would like to experience so you can look back on it with pleasure. This is a game of imagination so don’t limit yourself.
5. Imagine how you would like your life to look in five years’ time. Again this is a game of imagination, so any reasons why things couldn’t happen don’t count here. Put them aside and allow yourself to dream.
